Located in Vista CA, UltraComm is currently ramping production capability to address their customers high volume product needs.
UltraComm’s Test Engineers are a key factor in the growth and quality of our optical interconnect product line. This individual will be a key technical resource and will work closely with production, product and R&D engineers to build and release test and characterization systems.

This Test Engineer position will work out of the Ultra-Communications/Samtec Vista, CA site.
The salary range for this position is $114-$120k per year plus applicable bonus and commensurate with experience. This Test Engineer position will work out of the Ultra-Communications/Samtec Vista, CA site.
Summary/Objective: The Test Engineer is a self-motivated contributor, working with engineering groups at SAMTEC to develop and deliver optical product testing solutions for volume manufacturing. This position plans and executes the test development activities of assigned programs. They will ensure product test requirements are clearly defined, create plans to meet the requirements, assisting in roadmap development for continuous improvement. The Optics Test Engineer with PAM4 experience is the key point of contact for other groups on test development activities, until a manufacturable solution has been transferred to production, and then will continue to support on-going production as required.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Develop DC, RF, and other Optical test systems, providing operational procedures required to transition these stations from low volume to high volume work centers
- Assists in developing technical roadmaps for new product test development, identifying risk areas associated with different roadmap options, summarizing advantages/ disadvantages.
- Ensure test station capability and qualification plans are executed and reported as modifications/upgrades are implemented.
- Defines test project goals, risks, costs/resources, schedule, and potential solutions that may be found.
- Summarizes test project results, including impacts to product yield, quality, throughput, and cost.
- Cross-functionally team with Designers, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to support new product introduction.
- Create, conduct, & analyze Design of Experiments (DOE) for development and production activities.
- Streamline data gathering, storage and access to minimize effort required to generate required reports.
- Sustain and improve processes for electrical test processes associated with Samtec’s product base.
- Conduct audits, benchmarking & drive best practice methodologies to proactively prevent quality excursions as the technology ramps.
- Supervisory responsibility for Engineers or Technicians may be required.

Required Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in microelectronic / microsystem / optical design or manufacturing
- SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other engineering design, modeling or simulation software is desirable.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with test development projects and volume manufacturing, based on a thorough understanding of the equipment and materials that are used in the semiconductor and photonics industries.
- Opto-electronic industry experience desired; preferably direct packaging/assembly/test experience.
- Experience with PAM4 testing is required
- Candidates must have a strong understanding of statistics, process control and FMEA methodologies.
- Must have experience with writing of test specifications, reports and production documentation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in relating to both internal and external customers.
- Expertise in Minitab/SAS-JMP/similar data analysis package, proficiency with MS Office expected.
Preferred Education:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or the Physical Sciences from accredited school.
